The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed wide receiver Anthony Miller to a one-year contract for the 2023 season, the team announced on Tuesday.
Miller, 28, will enter his third season with the Steelers and should be poised to compete for the starting slot receiver role, as things stand currently.
The 5-foot-11, 199-pound Miller was a second-round pick of the Chicago Bears in the 2018 NFL Draft and spent his first three NFL seasons in Chicago, where he caught passes from current Steelers backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky.
With the Bears from 2018-20, Miller played in 47 games and made 17 starts. He caught 134 passes for 1,564 yards and 11 touchdowns, while averaging 7.3 yards per target.
In 2021, Miller was traded from the Bears to the Houston Texans in July. He played in two games with Houston, making five catches for 23 yards and a touchdown, before being released on Oct. 6.
The Steelers signed him to their practice squad and he was elevated to the active roster for one game at Cincinnati on Nov. 28. He caught one pass for two yards.
Miller re-signed with Pittsburgh and impressed in training camp before an injury during practice on Aug. 11. He was placed on the injured reserve list on Aug. 16, ending his 2022 season.
Miller joins returners Steven Sims and Gunner Olszewski, rookie Calvin Austin III, who also spent all of 2022 on the injured reserve list, and Louisville alum Dez Fitzpatrick, signed last week to a futures contract, as potential Steelers slot options for 2023.
The financial terms of the contract have not been released. Miller was set to become an unrestricted free agent in March.
