PITTSBURGH — I have not met a lot of Australian people in my life. Jordan Berry and Brad Wing have come through the Pittsburgh Steelers locker room. They’re Aussies. Pitt had an Australian punter named Kirk Christodolou when I covered the Panthers.
I’m sure I came across an exchange student or someone in a bar somewhere at some point, but none of them are standing out to me in terms of their Australian-ness. Nice guys. Quiet for the most part.
But when I think about a stereotypical Australian, and maybe this is just from watching too many episodes of The Crocodile Hunter, I think of a kind of larger-than-life personality. Someone who laughs in the face of danger. Someone who suffers a grisly injury and then just rubs some dirt on it and walks it off.
Steelers punter Cameron Johnston is that person.
