Steelers Suffer Four In-Game Injuries vs. Bills

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Anthony Averett suffered a hamstring injury in the third quarter of Saturday night’s preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, and will not return. Linebacker Tyler Matakevich also suffered a left ankle injury late in the third quarter, and got his ankle tapped on the sideline by the team medical staff. Matakevich still has his helmet with him, so it appears that he’ll return.

Averett is the third Steelers player to leave the game with an injury –  joining running back Jaylen Warren and linebacker Payton Wilson.

Payton Wilson is being evaluated for a concussion after delivering a hit in the third quarter. Wilson went into the locker room after being evaluated in the blue tent.

Buffalo Bills running back Ray Davis ran up the middle for eight yards and was tackled by safety Ryan Watts. It appeared that Wilson was caught in a friendly fire on the play.

Steelers running back Jaylen Warren left his team’s game against the Buffalo Bills with a hamstring injury and is doubtful to return.

Warren suffered the hamstring injury after catching pass from Russell Wilson in the second quarter. He gained 12 yards on the play, twisting through a tackle from Rasul Douglas and Joel Andreessen before being dragged to the ground.

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie inside linebacker Payton Wilson was one of the few bright spots from Friday night’s 20-12 loss to the Houston Texans. The former Chuck Bednarik Award Winner was all over the field, making plays sideline to sideline. Wilson recorded seven total tackles (led the team), five solos (led the team) and one tackle for a loss.
