Steelers Super Bowl Odds Unchanged after Signing Russell Wilson

Steelers Russell Wilson Super Bowl

The Pittsburgh Steelers made their biggest move of the 2024 offseason early on Monday morning, agreeing to a one-year deal with quarterback Russell Wilson for the 2024 season, but you might not know by taking a look at the odds.

Wilson, a nine-time Pro Bowler and former Super Bowl champion with the Seattle Seahawks, comes to the Steelers after being released by the Denver Broncos, and the Broncos are paying most of his $39 million salary in 2024, with the Steelers on the hook for just the veteran minimum.

So Steelers general manager Omar Khan was able to make a serious upgrade to his quarterback position without spending precious salary cap space or draft capital to do so, allowing him to focus the rest of his offseason efforts around improving the rest of the team.

Given the fact that Khan already had one great offseason in 2023, the idea of him stacking another one like it on without the constraints of having to draft or pay for a quarterback ought to be enticing for Steelers fans.

But the Las Vegas oddsmakers seem relatively unimpressed by the move.

The Steelers entered free agency at +7,500 to win Super Bowl 59 next February, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. After signing Wilson, they’re … still +7,500.

The lack of movement is likely due to the fact that the books were already assuming the Steelers were going to make such a move. In fact, Wilson has been favored to be the team’s starting quarterback in Week 1 for several weeks now.

So in many ways, Wilson or someone like Wilson being on the Steelers has already been built into their Super Bowl odds.

The Steelers still have the worst odds to win the Super Bowl of any AFC North team and the fifth-worst odds of any AFC team.

The Steelers are +1,100 to win the AFC North, double the odds of the next-longest pick, the Cleveland Browns at +550. The Baltimore Ravens are the favorites, just under even money at +105, and the Cincinnati Bengals are at +170.
