PITTSBURGH — The Steelers are beginning to implement more and more of Justin Fields into their offensive game plan. In Week 11, Fields took three snaps at quarterback. In Week 12, he had seven snaps.
Fields helped lead a touchdown drive in last week’s loss against the Browns, but many can still argue that switching between quarterbacks mid-game can be disruptive to the offense’s flow. Even Fields admitted that it isn’t always easy to be randomly thrown into the game.
“I mean, yeah. I think it does, but at the end of the day, that’s what my job is,” Fields said when asked if it hurts his rhythm to go on and off the field. “I can’t complain, and like I said, anytime I get an opportunity to go on the field to help my team, I’m happy to do it.”
However, how does the rest of the offense feel? Offensive tackle Broderick Jones revealed it doesn’t change his job whatsoever.
“Nah. Like for me, if I can’t control it, it don’t make a difference because at the end of the day, I gotta go out there and block the man in front of me or protect whoever is behind me, even if that’s coach T. behind me,” Jones said. “For me, it don’t really make a difference. You just gotta be prepared.”
Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson hasn’t seemed to be effected very much, either. He completed 21-of-28 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown in Week 12.
That’s why nobody should be surprised if Fields’ role on offense continues to grow, especially given the Steelers struggles in the red zone.

The question is: Will Fields continue to be used randomly or will he carve out a specific role for himself?
Jones is still unsure.
“No, you never know,” Jones said. “It’s all based on down and distance and where we are on the field and however (Arthur Smith’s) feeling. So we just gotta be ready when that time comes. Like I said, just all 11 of us being on the same page and executing.”
