PITTSBURGH — Tight end Darnell Washington did not practice for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday with a left knee injury, the team announced.
Washington had been a full participant in practice on Wednesday. He was at practice on Thursday, but did not play.
The Steelers have four tight ends on their active roster, with Connor Heyward and MyCole Pruitt behind Washington and starter Pat Freiermuth on the depth chart.
Washington has dealt with multiple injuries through his young NFL career, but they have yet to keep him out of a game. Washington played in all 17 games as a rookie in 2023. The Steelers mostly used him as a blocker last season, and he caught just seven passes for 61 yards.
The Steelers selected him in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Georgia, after injury concerns caused him to fall down draft boards.
Washington was a three-year regular for the Bulldogs, and had his most productive season as a junior in 2022, when he caught 28 passes for 454 yards and two touchdowns.
