Steelers TE Unexpectedly Misses Practice with Injury

PITTSBURGH — Tight end MyCole Pruitt surprisingly popped up on the Pittsburgh Steelers injury report for Thursday with a knee injury.

Pruitt did not practice on Thursday after being a full participant on Wednesday. It’s unclear if this is the same knee injury that cost Pruitt four games earlier this season or a new one. He was initially injured in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos, suffering a right knee injury, and did not return until Week 7 against the New York Jets.

On the season, Pruitt has two catches on three targets for 19 yards and has primarily been used in a blocking role. He had also been playing on special teams before his injury, but has not been since returning.

Earlier this week, the Steelers released No. 5 tight end Rodney Williams, who had absorbed the bulk of Pruitt’s special teams responsibilities when he was promoted from the practice squad in Week 3. Williams cleared waivers on Wednesday and remains a free agent.

The Steelers added blocking tight end Matt Sokol to their practice squad on Wednesday. He would likely be elevated for this Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders if Pruitt is unable to play.
