The Pittsburgh Steelers will host Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, widely considered to be one of the top prospects in the entire 2025 NFL Draft class, on a pre-draft visit to UPMC Rooney Sports Complex this week, according to a report by Noah Strackbein of Sports Illustrated.

The Steelers did not send most of the top brass to Boulder for the Colorado pro day last week, which apparently showed either a lack of interest in Sanders or a lack of faith in their ability to land him.

But maybe that won’t be the case now that the consensus No. 2 quarterback prospect in the class is coming to Pittsburgh.

Sanders is currently the No. 4 players on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board, following only Miami quarterback Cam Ward, Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter and his Colorado teammate, cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter.

There are a bunch of quarterback-needy teams picking highly in the 2025 NFL Draft, including the Cleveland Browns at No. 2, New York Giants at No. 3, New York Jets at No. 7 and New Orleans Saints at No. 9, so it’s hard to envision Sanders falling all the way to the Steelers at No. 21 overall in the first round. Of course, the Steelers could be contemplating a trade up for Sanders if he does start moving down the board.

Sanders led the entire NCAA in completion percentage in 2024, with 74% of his attempts landing in the hands of one of his receivers. He also led the notoriously pass-happy Big 12 in completions (353), yards (4,134), yards per attempt (8.7), touchdowns (37) and passer rating (168.2).

Sanders finished eighth in the Heisman Trophy voting, was the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as the nation’s best upperclassman quarterback.

Sanders started his collegiate career with two seasons at Jackson State before transferring to Colorado to follow his father, Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders, who was fired away from Jackson State by the Buffaloes in 2023.

The Steelers have an obvious future need at the quarterback position, whether they eventually end up signing Aaron Rodgers or not, and have been doing plenty of due diligence on the quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft class.

In addition to Sanders, Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart and Louisville’s Tyler Shough have pre-draft visits to Pittsburgh. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Omar Khan were at the pro days of Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, Texas’ Quinn Ewers, Ohio State’s Will Howard and Notre Dame’s Riley Leonard.
