Steelers to Host Florida DL Gervon Dexter for Top 30 Pre-Draft Visit
The Steelers will host Florida defensive lineman Gervon Dexter for a Top-30 pre-draft visit, he revealed on Stadium and Gale podcast Friday.
It is the second top-30 visit that the Steelers will have that is known of at this time, following Dawand Jones of Ohio State. Dexter revealed that he has interest from a bevy of teams who will host him for visits at their facilities, but that the Steelers are one of them, and in fact, are among a competitive group looking to add some interior defensive line help.
“Right now, I think we have five or six top-30 visits,” Dexter said. “At the NFL Combine, I met with 22 different teams formally. For right now, we’re for sure meeting with Philly, the Bills, the Steelers, New York Giants, the Browns.”
The Steelers were one of the 22 teams to formally meet with Gervon Dexter in Indianapolis as well. So, that continues a trend of meetings and interest. However, that is not all that surprising as Dexter is one of the top defensive tackles in the class and Pittsburgh has a bad need to get younger on the interior.
The 6-foot-5, 310-pound defensive tackle came in well with the explosion drills in Indianapolis, with a 31-inch vertical and 9-foot-2 broad jump, both over the 70th percentile. He did measure in with only 32-inch arms, so length is a concern, but Dexter is a good athlete with polished skills.
A native of Lake Wales, Florida, he racked up two sacks and four tackles for loss in 2022 down in Gainesville. Over his career, Dexter has played from the nose out to the 5-technique and racked up 5 sacks during his career in the SEC. Should the Steelers look to draft Dexter, he will need plenty of work, but could have the upside to be a significant rotational contributor right away.
