The Pittsburgh Steelers might be looking to bring in competition for Christian Kuntz, who has served as the team’s long snapper since 2020, as they are set to host three long snappers for workouts.

According to Pro Snapper Tracker, the Steelers are hosting long snappers Peter Bowden, Matt Hembrough and Sean Wracher for workouts.

Bowden was an undrafted free agent in 2024 and spent time on the Green Bay Packers and Jacksonville Jaguars practice squads. He played college football at the University of Wisconsin.

As a walk-on, he won the starting job in 2021 and was named a semifinalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award, which is given to the nation’s best long snapper, in 2022. He was then named a finalist for the award in 2023.

Hembrough was an undrafted free agent in 2023 and spent most of the year with the Arizona Cardinals before being released last April. He played college football at Oklahoma State University.

He was an All-America long snapper who started for both punts and place kicks for four seasons and ended his career as a finalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award.

Wracher was an undrafted free agent in 2024 after playing college football at Indiana University, where he served as the primary long snapper every game of his career.

In 2023, he was also named a semifinalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award and tabbed third-team All-Big Ten at long snapper.

It seems unlikely any will replace Kuntz, who just signed a three-year contract extension with the Steelers last offseason, but the team looks like its doing its homework at every position.

Bowden, Hembrough and Wracher could also serve as injury insurance if Kuntz were to ever get injured and not be able to play.
