Steelers to Support Alumnus Derek Moye as Part of Fantennial Weekend
The Steelers players and alumni will be attending a high school football game and the team will be holding a Fan Fest at Heinz Field on the days leading up to their home opener. This is part of what they’re calling a Fantennial Weekend, celebrating the start of the 100th season of NFL football.
On Friday, current and former Steelers players will support one of their own — Steelers alumnus Derek Moye — as he starts his career as a high school football head coach. Moye, Rochester, Pa., native, played for the Steelers from 2012-14 and spent last season as a high school assistant at Aliquippa.
After winning a state title with the Quips, Moye was hired as the head coach at Western Beaver. His new squad will play against Riverside at Blackhawk High School on September 13th.
On Saturday, there will be a Steelers fan fest outside Heinz Field from 2-6 p.m., including a car show and a concert at Stage AE.
During Sunday’s game — a 1 p.m. kickoff against the Seattle Seahawks — the team will announce the results of a fan vote on the team’s best play as part of a league-wide effort to celebrate the centennial.
