The Steelers are bringing in former Kansas City Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt for a tryout, according to Saturday’s NFL transactions page, and if all goes well, the son of former Steelers punter Craig Colquitt could be suiting up in the Black and Gold soon.

Dustin Colquitt, 38, was released by the Chiefs in April. He spent 15 seasons with Kansas City after being drafted in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft out of Tennessee. He won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs in 2019.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, if Colquitt’s tryout goes well, he’s expected to sign with the Steelers.

The team brought competition for incumbent Jordan Berry into training camp in the form of undrafted rookie Corliss Waitman, but Waitman was released by the team during cut-down day on Saturday.

Colquitt has averaged 44.8 yards per kick in his NFL career, and was just shy of that mark in 2019, when he averaged 44.3 yards per punt.

Berry, who has been with the Steelers for five years, has averaged 44.2 yards per punt in his NFL career, but had a 45.5-yard average in 2019.

Dustin’s father, Craig Colquitt, kicked for the Steelers from 1978 to 1984 after being drafted in the third round of the 1978 NFL Draft, also out of Tennessee. Colquitt won two Super Bowls with the Steelers, in 1979 and 1980. Dustin’s younger brother Britton kicks for the Minnesota Vikings.
