The Pittsburgh Steelers will wear holiday-themed uniform patches during their Week 16 and 17 Christmas games, the NFL announced on Wednesday.
The Steelers and the other three teams that are taking part in the league’s first-ever slate of games on Christmas Day when it falls on a Wednesday — the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans — will wear the patches for both their Week 16 games, which will be played on Saturday, Dec. 21, and their Christmas Day games in Week 17.
Adam Schefter of ESPN posted an image of the patch, which consists of the NFL logo, backed by crossed candy canes.
The NFL has played games on Christmas Day many times before, but this is the first time the league is going out of its way to schedule two game on a day when it does not usually play. To play two games on Wednesday, Dec. 25, the four teams involved will play on Saturday the week before. That means that all four teams will play three games in an 11-day span.
