Former Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Daylen Baldwin is working out for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. Baldwin was cut by Atlanta on August 1.
Baldwin, 24, signed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent on Aug. 3, 2022. He was signed to the Browns’ practice after being waived on Aug. 30. He remained on the practice squad for most of the season, outside of one game where he was activated. He caught two passes for 25 yards in the Browns’ 13-3 win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 14.
Baldwin signed a reserve/future contract with Cleveland in January of 2023, but was waived in August. Baldwin spent most of the 2023 season on the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad. He signed a future’s contract with the club in January but was waived on May 7. He signed with the Falcons 15 days later.
Baldwin spent time at Morgan State, Jackson State, and Michigan during his college career. At Michigan in 2021, Baldwin recorded 17 receptions for 258 yards and two touchdowns.
Coming out of college, Baldwin ran a 4.71 40-yard dash at his pro day. The poor 40 time and three different college stops most likely played a big factor in why Baldwin went undrafted.
With Roman Wilson sidelined with a left ankle injury, the Steelers could use another receiver at camp. Wilson ditched the boot for the first time on Sunday since suffering a high ankle sprain in his left ankle on July 30. Wilson is still not participating in practice with the Steelers, but being out of the boot just a few days after the injury is probably a positive sign that the rookie wide receiver could be back before the end of training camp.
Wilson suffered the ankle injury after being tackled on a jet sweep by cornerback Anthony Averett in seven shots at Tuesday’s practice.
