With rookie Troy Fautanu sidelined for a couple weeks with a knee injury, the Pittsburgh Steelers worked out offensive tackles Greg Eiland and Bobby Evans on Sunday, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. Wilson also noted that the Steelers worked out long snappers Jake McQuaide and Antonio Ortiz.

Eiland, who stands at 6-foot-8, 335 pounds, most recently was with the San Antonio Brahmas of the United Football League. Eiland signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2021. He spent three seasons on and off of Seattle’s practice squad.

At Mississippi State, Eiland appeared in 47 career games with 34 starts on the offensive line for the Bulldogs.

Like Eiland, Evans also most recently was in the UFL as a member of the Arlington Renegades. He was named to the All-UFL Team in 2024.

Evans was a third-round pick out of Oklahoma by the Los Angeles Rams in 2019. He played four seasons with the club, and made 12 starts in 35 games. He played both tackle and Guard in L.A. Evans also was a member of the Rams’ Super Bowl title team in 2021.

Evans spent the 2022 season with the Minnesota Vikings. In 2023, he was with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He appeared in no games in both places.

It’s unclear why the Steelers brought in two long snappers for workouts, but Christian Kuntz had a bad snap in Friday night’s preseason game against the Houston Texans that resulted in a missed extra point. Kuntz signed a three-year extension with the club in March and has been solid, so the Steelers could just be doing their due diligence.

The Steelers worked out Ortiz last year. He spent time with the Arlington Renegades of the UFL and Chicago Bears in 2022. Oriz started all 12 games as TCU’s snapper in 2021. Overall, he started 44 games during his career at TCU.

McQuaide, 36, spent 10 years with the Rams organization. He most recently was with the Dallas Cowboys (2021-2022) and Detroit Lions (2023). He’s played 190 games in his career, 160 of those with the Rams.
