The Pittsburgh Steelers and U.S. Steel continued their ‘Steelers STEM’ partnership this past school year providing STEM education to area students.
52 middle schools in the Greater Pittsburgh area participated in the program, with over 7,120 students involved between the sixth and eight grade levels learning about future career opportunities in STEM fields. Schools were provided with a digital curriculum to keep student informed through a year of virtual learning.
Students also had the opportunity to virtually speak with Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Josh Dobbs and professional at U.S. Steel to pick their brains about their experiences pursuing and living careers in STEM.
“From an early age I always had a passion to learn about aviation, to learn about space,” Dobbs said. “I was able to visit the Kennedy Space Center down in Florida… during the shuttle age and see some rocket launches. So as I grew up being interested in aviation, space, and also being good at math and science, when I decided to go to college, I knew I wanted to pursue something in the STEM field.”
Dobbs studied aerospace engineering while playing quarterback at Tennessee from 2013 through 2016.
We were proud to partner with @U_S_Steel again this year to support over 3,740 area students with our Steelers STEM education platform.
Thank you to all the teachers for their hard work and support during the 2020 school year!— Pittsburgh Steelers (@steelers) June 14, 2021
