One Arthur Smith Passing Concept Seems Tailor-Made for Pat Freiermuth

Pittsburgh Steelers OC Arthur Smith

The Steelers offensive coordinator search is now over: former Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith is coming to Pittsburgh to call plays. Prior to his three-year stint in Atlanta, Smith was seen as one of the brightest young play callers in all of the land as the architect behind some elite offenses with the Titans. Now, Smith will be on a redemption tour. While his offenses are primarily designed around the wide zone run game, there are some interesting passing concepts in his bag too.

SN analyst Derrick Bell breaks down his “sail” passing concept variations which were primarily used to get the ball to tight end Kyle Pitts. Another member of the 2021 NFL Draft, Pat Freiermuth will be searching for a bounce back campaign, leaving many wondering how he’ll be deployed in this new offense. By studying his offenses in the past, we can get a preview of potential things to come moving forward.
