Steelers Vote T.J. Watt as Team’s MVP for Third Straight Season
PITTSBURGH — The Steelers have elected outside linebacker T.J. Watt as the team’s Most Valuable Player for the third consecutive season, the team announced on Thursday.
Watt has 21.5 sacks, setting the Steelers’ all-time single-season record and is one sack away from tying Michael Strahan’s NFL record. He’s just the fifth player in NFL history to record more than 20 sacks in a season. Watt also leads the NFL with 20 tackles for loss and 36 quarterback hits.
The Steelers players have voted on their own MVP since 1969. No player has won it in three consecutive seasons. Antonio Brown won the award four times in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017. Jerome Bettis and Hines Ward both won it three times.
