THE OTHER SIDE

Defensive tackle Maurice Hurst (ankle/foot) and tackle Jedrick Wills (knee) were placed on injured reserve. Defesnive tackle Sam Samara (concussion) has been ruled out. Rookie Jowon Briggs will be the third defensive tackle behinds Shelby Harris and Dalvin Tomlinson. Germaine Ifedi will start in place of Wills at left tackle.

Wide receiver Cedrick Tillman (concussion) has been ruled out. Michael Woods II and Kadarius Toney have been promoted from the practice squad. One of those two, or rookie Jamari Thrash, will be the third starting wide receiver alongside Elijah Moore and Jerry Jeudy. Thrash is questionable with a shoulder injury.

Safety Juan Thornhill (calf) is questionable in the secondary. Rodney McLeod or Ronnie Hickman would play if he is unable to.

THE LAST TIME

Thanks mostly to their own inefficiency on offense and the Browns converting four fourth downs, the Steelers fell behind 18-6 early in the forth quarter before mounting a furious comeback that gave the team a late 19-18 lead.

But another missed offensive chance, a shanked punt, and a crucial slip on a third-down play let the Browns back into scoring range as Cleveland pulled away with a 24-19 victory during a lake effect snowstorm.

STEELERS-BROWNS SERIES

The Steelers lead the all-time series, 79-63-1, though recently, it has been much closer than that. The Steelers have swept the series just once in the last four seasons, while the Browns won the most recent playoff game between the teams in 2020. The Steelers are 7-6-1 against the Browns since the start of the 2018 season.

But they have been very good against Cleveland at Acrisure Stadium. The Steelers have lost just twice to the Browns since the building was constructed, once in 2003 and once in the 2020 playoffs.

The current period of parity was preceded by one of Pittsburgh dominance. The Steelers lost only six games to Cleveland between the revival of the Browns franchise in 1999 and 2019. The Browns are shooting for their first season sweep of the Steelers since 1988.

PITTSBURGH CONNECTIONS

Linebacker Devin Bush was the first-round pick of the Steelers in the 2019 NFL Draft and he played in his first four NFL seasons with Pittsburgh before the team declined his fifth-year option in advance of the 2023 season.

Linebacker Khaleke Hudson is a McKeesport native, and is also in his first season with the Browns.

Long snapper Rex Sunahara is a West Virginia alum and has had two stints with the Steelers, in 2021 and 2023, but never played a regular-season game in Pittsburgh.

Practice squad defensive end Marcus Haynes had two stints with the Steelers earlier this season.

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam was a minority owner of the Steelers from 2008-12.

Special teams coordinator and assistant head coach Raymond “Bubba” Ventrone is a Pittsburgh native and Chartiers Valley alum, the same high school as Steelers long snapper Christian Kuntz.

Running backs coach Duce Staley played for the Steelers from 2004-06, winning Super Bowl XL with the team.
