The lines are live for the first Pittsburgh Steelers preseason game of the 2023 season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday, but with large levels of uncertainty about who will play and for how long, they’re still a bit all over the place.

As of late Wednesday morning, several sportsbooks, including Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, have the Black and Gold as underdogs, with Rivers posting a +1.5 line for the Steelers. DraftKings and FanDuel have the Steelers at +1.

But if you’re of the proclivity to bet against the Steelers in the preseason opener, there are better odds out there. Bet 365 and Wynn both have the Steelers at -1, while Points Bet is at -0.5.

Caesars Sportsbook is playing the middle, calling the game a pick ‘em.

The Steelers went 3-0 in the preseason in 2022, beating the Seattle Seahawks 32-25 at home, the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road 16-15 and the Detroit Lions at home 19-9. They won three of four games in 2021.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett said that he will play in the game, but does not know how long he will play. The Steelers played starter Mitch Trubisky for just two series in the preseason opener in 2022.

Meanwhile, Baker Mayfield is expected to start for the Buccaneers. The former Cleveland Browns first-round pick is in a battle with with 2021 second-round pick Kyle Trask to replace Tom Brady as Tampa’s starting quarterback.
