The Pittsburgh Steelers have waived first-year defensive tackle Demarcus Christmas, the team announced on Thursday, while also officially announcing the signing of kicker sam Sloman.

Christmas was signed to the Steelers practice squad midseason in 2020, spending ther final eight weeks in Pittsburgh. He was not elevated to the active roster for any games.

After the 2020 season, Christmas re-signed with the Steelers on a reserve/future contract for the 2021 season. He did not participate in the team’s mandatory minicamp last month for undisclosed reasons.

Christmas was waived with an injury designation and he will revert to the injured reserve if he clears waivers.

A former sixth-round draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks, Christmas missed his entire rookie season with a back injury in 2019.

Sloman’s signing was first reported by NFL Network earlier on Thursday. His contract is for one year, the team announced financial details were not disclosed.

With the signing of Sloman and the release of Christmas, the Steelers’ offseason roster remains at the 90-man maximum.
