The Steelers waived tight end Charles Jones and punter Corliss Waitman on Monday, to get the team under the 90-man offseason roster limit after drafting nine players and signing eight undrafted free agents over the weekend.

Waitman joined the team as an undrafted rookie last year out of South Alabama and spent most of the 2020 season on the Steelers’ practice squad. He did not appear in a game, but was signed to a future contract for 2021.

Waitman’s spot on the roster was no longer needed when the Steelers drafted Georgia Tech punter Pressley Harvin III in the seventh round of the draft on Saturday.

Jones finished the 2020 season on the Steelers’ practice squad. He originally signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent out of Tulane in 2019 and spent most of his rookie season on practice squad.

Jones has appeared in four career NFL games, all in 2019 with Jacksonville. He has one catch on one target for five yards and also played 10 snaps of special teams without recording any statistics.

The Steelers also made official their signing of defensive back DeMarkus Acy, which had been reported on Saturday.
