Steelers Work Out Veteran Punter Brock Miller Friday

The Steelers hosted veteran punter Brock Miller for a workout on Friday, according to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network.

Miller has been around the block. The veteran punted in the USFL for the New Jersey Generals. However, in the NFL, his stops have included the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Rams, and New York Giants. An undrafted free agent of Southern Utah in the 2014 NFL Draft, Miller has stayed around football for a lengthy amount of time up to this point.

However, does this mean the Steelers are pushing Pressley Harvin III? That is unlikely. Miller is a left-footed punter, just as Bengals punter Kevin Huber is as well. So, the Steelers seem to be covering bases here and giving Steven Sims some opportunities to get used to the ball being punted off a lefty punter. The Steelers hosted Miller before their first game against the Bengals. Oftentimes, Miller has been brought into various teams to showcase his lefty punting ability.

Last week, Brock Miller went to Minnesota to help the Vikings prepare for Bills’ left-footed punter Matt Haack. Still, do not expect the Steelers to make a move here unless Harvin suffers an injury. Harvin’s inconsistencies are well-documented. His 44.2 yards per punt is 26th in the NFL. But do not expect this to be the catalyst for a larger move.
