Steelers wide receiver great Hines Ward was not selected as a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2022, the Hall of Fame announced on Thursday.
It’s the sixth consecutive year that Ward has been a semifinalist, but failed to make the cut as a finalist. The 15 finalists were chosen from a pool of 25 semifinalists. The final vote on the Class of 2022 will be made the week before the Super Bowl.
Ward is the Steelers’ all-time leader in receptions (1,000), receiving yards (12,083) and receiving touchdowns (85).
He was a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champion. Ward was named the MVP of Super Bowl XL in Detroit, where he caught the game-winning touchdown.
Wide receivers Torry Holt, Andre Johnson and Reggie Wayne were chosen as finalists ahead of Ward.
