CINCINNATI — Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin III left his team’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday late in the first half and will not return with a head injury.

Austin took a hard hit from Cincinnati cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt late in the second half and came out of the game. The Steelers ran just two more plays at the end of the half.

When the Steelers came back from the locker room to start the third quarter, Austin was not with them, and the team announced that he was being evaluated for a head injury. He was later ruled out.

Before his injury, Austin made two catches for 29 yards and a touchdown. His 23-yard touchdown catch from Russell Wilson early in the second quarter helped tie the game at 14-14.

He also drew a defensive pass interference penalty against Cincinnati linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither on the opening drive of the game. Austin stayed down on the turf for a while after that hit and received medical attention, but was able to quickly return.

The Steelers’ starting slot receiver, Austin entered the Week 13 matchup tied with tight end Pat Freiermuth for second on the team with 354 receiving yards. His 17.7 yards per reception is first on the team among regular receivers.

The Steelers led, 27-21 at the half, when Austin came out of the game. Steelers running back Najee Harris had been injured in the first half, but returned.
