Suspension Officially Begins for Steelers CB Cam Sutton
The eight-week suspension for Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Cam Sutton has officially started, as the team placed him on the suspended list.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have placed veteran cornerback Cam Sutton on the suspended list, as he begins to serve his eight-week league-mandated suspension after a domestic violence arrest earlier this offseason.
Sutton will be suspended for the first eight weeks of the season. During the first phase of his suspension, he is not eligible to be inside the facility or have contact with team personnel. He also cannot attend games.
At the midway point of his suspension on Sept. 30, Sutton will again be allowed to attend team meetings, work out at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, and make use of the team’s medical facilities.

Beginning on Oct. 14, Sutton will be able to return to practice, and he is eligible to be promoted from the suspended list and returned to the 53-man roster on Oct. 29. That’s the Steelers’ bye week, so Sutton won’t see the field until the team’s Week 10 trip to the Washington Commanders on Nov. 10. While Sutton is suspended, he will not be paid and does not count against the team’s salary cap.
While Sutton is suspended, undrafted rookie Beanie Bishop is expected to start at Nickel cornerback.
Sutton originally faced felony chargers for an alleged domestic abuse incident in Florida earlier this offseason. He spent several weeks wanted by Florida sheriffs, and during that time, was released by the Detroit Lions. Sutton’s charges were reduced to a misdemeanor, and he entered a pre-trial diversion program that included admitting guilt. The NFL independently investigated the allegations and confirmed that Sutton violated the league’s policy.
The Steelers re-signed Sutton after the charges were reduced. The team’s third-round pick out of Tennessee in the 2017 NFL Draft, Sutton spent his first six seasons in Pittsburgh before signing a three-year deal with the Lions in 2023. He ended up only playing one season in Detroit.
