PITTSBURGH — Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt became the first player in team history to record multiple 13-sack seasons when he recorded a half-sack of Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen on Sunday.
The half-sack gave Watt 13 on the season, tying the career high he set in 2018 and making him the first Steelers player to record multiple 13-sack seasons. The NFL first started recording sacks as a statistic in 1982.
Watt is fourth in the NFL in sacks this season, behind Tampa Bay’s Shaquil Barrett (15.5), Arizona’s Chandler Jones (14) and New Orleans’ Cameron Jordan (13.5).
Watt’s 13 sacks has him tied for the seventh-best season in team history. Only six players have had more than 13 sacks:
James Harrison 16, 2008
Mike Merriweather 15, 1984
Kevin Greene 14, 1994
Keith Willis 14, 1983
LaMarr Woodley 13.5, 2009
Jason Gildon 13.5, 2000
Watt now has 33 sacks in his three-year NFL career.
