Just one year after Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy set the record for the NFL Scouting Combine’s fastest 40-yard dash time (4.21 seconds), another Longhorn has his sights set on doing the same.

On Friday, Texas wide receiver Isaiah Bond said he’s confident that he’s going to break Worthy’s record on Saturday.

“I’m going to break the record tomorrow for sure,” Bond said via Eric Edholm of NFL.com. “I anticipate running 4.20 or possibly, if I’m feeling great, I might run a 4.1.”

Bond, 20, is viewed as a Day 2 prospect after recording 34 catches for 540 yards and five touchdowns at Texas in 2024.

However, if he breaks the 40-yard dash record, he may be able to sneak into the first round just as Worthy did last year. The Kansas City Chiefs traded up to pick No. 28 to snag him.

Bond doesn’t have quite the production Worthy had in college. In fact, Bond’s best season arguably came in 2023 when he had 48 catches for 668 yards and four touchdowns while helping Alabama win the 2023 SEC Championship.

But there’s only one thing teams can’t teach: Speed. And Bond has always had that.

“I’ve been running my whole life,” Bond said. “I’ve been one of the fastest (athletes) my whole life. So I’m going to go out there, and when practice meets preparation, greatness is achieved. I’m just going to trust my training and put on a show.”

Breaking the 40-yard dash record would likely catch the entire league’s attention, including the wide receiver-needy Steelers.

Pittsburgh is still looking for another wide receiver to pair with George Pickens in its offense. That could prove to be Bond if he makes history on Saturday.
