PITTSBURGH — During his Tuesday press conference, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin ruled out tight end MyCole Pruitt (knee), cornerback Cory Trice (hamstring) and outside linebacker Alex Highsmith (groin) for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Pruitt missed Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, while Trice and Highsmith were in-game injuries. Trice, who was playing at the jammer position, suffered a hamstring injury on the first punt return of the game.
Running back Jaylen Warren (knee), left guard Isaac Seumalo (pec), will have a chance to practice this week. Quarterback Russell Wilson (calf) is expected to be limited again Wednesday. If Seumalo cannot return, he expects to continue to rotate Spencer Anderson and Mason McCormick at left guard.
Warren underwent an MRI on his knee after being pulled from Sunday’s game against the Chargers by Tomlin. Tomlin said that Warren didn’t look right to him, and that’s why he took the team’s second running back out of the game.
“He was limping in-game,” Tomlin said. “In the latter part of the game, I kind of noticed it. I pulled him from the game because I know Jaylen is tough. He’s just gonna go. We’ll see where his availability is as we work this week. I’d imagine he’s going to be somewhat limited (Wednesday) and we’ll see the trajectory of it in terms of including him or not in planning.”
Tomlin clarified that this is a new injury for Warren and not related to the hamstring injury that he suffered in the preseason that limited him in the season opener.
Highsmith had an MRI on the groin injury that forced the Steelers right outside linebacker from Sunday’s 20-10 win over L.A., he told reporters on Monday.
Highsmith did not yet have the results of that MRI as of Monday afternoon, but the simple fact that he had one signifies that he may be facing a multi-week absence. Highsmith previously injured his groin during training camp. He suffered that injury on Aug. 6 and missed the entire preseason as a result, seeing his first game action in the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 8.
Highsmith indicated that this injury might be worse than the first one.
“It feels a little different,” Highsmith said. “We’ll see wha the results are. … It’s just frustrating when it happens, when the same injury happens. So I’ve just gotta get back, get to rehab and work my way to get back.”
