Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, Alan breaks down the Steelers quarterback situation after another un-inspiring outing by Justin Fields and the entire offense, and whether Mike Tomlin should turn to Russell Wilson.
Fields completed 15 of 27 passing for 131 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday night’s 20-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. That’s the fourth time in five games that Fields failed to throw for even 200 yards.
While he has not turned the ball over, with just two giveaways on the season, it still seems clear that head coach Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith don’t fully trust Fields, and he isn’t really giving them a lot of reason to feel like they have to.
With Russell Wilson rounding into health, it seems like this could be the week the Steelers’ veteran quarterback makes his return.
