Tomlin: No New Positive COVID-19 Steelers Tests on Sunday

The Steelers did not have any new positive COVID-19 tests on Sunday, head coach Mike Tomlin said, but he cautioned that the team is not out of the woods yet after having at least three members of the organization test positive so far this week.

Running back James Conner, special teams coordinator Danny Smith and quarterbacks coach Matt Canada all reportedly tested positive on Saturday.

The team returned to practice on Sunday, but Tomlin remains cautious.

“I don’t know that I can say I’m confident of anything in this environment,” he said. “I know that I got great news today that we had no positives. I think that’s the global mentality of all of us. It’s day-to-day. It’s a sensitive situation. You’re talking about degrees of confidence and things of that nature. That’s a slippery slope.”

Currently, five Steelers are on the COVID-19 reserve list: Conner, defensive linemen Stephon Tuitt and Isaiah Buggs and offensive linemen Jerald Hawkins and Kevin Dotson. Tight end Vance McDonald came off the list this week.
