Michael Gallup, one of the top free agent wide receivers left on the market, is heading to the Las Vegas Raiders on a one-year, $3 million deal, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN, taking one more option for the Steelers off the board as they continue to seek upgrades at their wide receiver position.
The 6-foot-1, 198-pound Gallup was released by the Cowboys earlier this offseason, in a salary cap-related move. Gallup was owed $9.5 million in salary and roster bonuses, an essential move for a team that now has just $3.8 million in cap space.
Before his release, the 28-year-old had spent his entire career with Dallas since he was selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Gallup had a 1,000-yard season in 2019, catching 66 passes for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns. But over his last three seasons combines, he recorded just 108 catches for 1,287 yards and eight scores, while the Dallas offense has been ascended with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb around him.
The Steelers have been in search of a solution at the wide receiver position since trading Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers earlier this offseason.
They have been connected to several receivers in the trade market, including Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel of the San Francisco 49ers and Courtland Sutton of the Denver Broncos, but have not shown significant interest in the free agent market, including players like Gallup.
