Top Free Agent WR off the Board for Steelers

The top free agent wide receiver is off the board for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as Chris Godwin has re-signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a three-year, $66 million deal ($44 million guaranteed), according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Godwin was linked as a potential option for the Steelers in free agency, but Pittsburgh found their WR1 by trading for DK Metcalf on Sunday night.
General manager Omar Khan sent a 2025 second-round draft pick to the Seattle Seahawks for the All-Pro wideout. The teams will also flip picks in the sixth and seventh rounds.
The Steelers and Metcalf have reportedly agreed to a five-year, $150 million deal.
Spotrac projected a three-year, $67.58 million contract ($22.5 million per year) for Godwin, so he received roughly what the market thought he was worth.
Godwin was on pace for one the best seasons of his career before suffering a season-ending ankle injury in Week 7 last season. Godwin recorded 50 receptions for 576 yards (11.5 average) and five touchdowns, an average of 82 yards and seven catches per game. He ranked second in the NFL in receiving yards at the time of his injury.
Godwin, who underwent surgery on his dislocated ankle, is expected to make a full recovery for 2025.
Godwin, 28, was selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft by Tampa Bay. In 2019, he made the Pro Bowl and was named second-team All-Pro. The following season, he played a key part in helping the Bucs win a Super Bowl title.
The former third-round pick has served as Tampa Bay’s No. 2 wide receiver to Mike Evans throughout his eight-year NFL career, and that elusive duo will remain in intact.
