UNITY TWP., Pa. — If you were thinking coming into the 2022 Steelers training camp that Mason Rudolph was just a placeholder in what would ultimately become a two-man quarterback battle between Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett, the early returns are making that assumption look incorrect.

Rudolph took all of the second-team reps for the second consecutive practice on Thursday, and looked at least as good, if not better, than his competitors in doing so.

Rudolph was the only of the three to not throw an interception in rainy conditions on Thursday, and has not thrown one through two straight practices. He made an athletic play to scoop up a bad snap Wednesday and dump it off to Calvin Austin III for a touchdown and showed poise in the rain on Thursday.

Mike Tomlin doesn’t seem surprised one bit by that development.
