Two Steelers Questionable to Return from IR This Week

PITTSBURGH — Two Pittsburgh Steelers that are on the injured reserve list could make their returns this week, but remain questionable to do so, according to the team’s injury report.

Inside linebacker Tyler Matakevich and wide receiver Ben Skowronek are both eligible to return from the injured reserve list this week, and both players were full participants in practice all week leading up to the Steelers’ Week 10 game against the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Both players are more known for their special teams contributions than their play on either offense or defense.

Matakevich has been out since Sept. 15 with a hamstring injury. A variety of players have replaced his production on the Steelers special teams unit, including Jeremiah Moon and Rodney Williams. Williams was released earlier this week. Matakevich must be reinstated from the injured reserve list on Saturday, released, or spent the rest of the season on the IR.

Skowronek has been out since suffering a shoulder injury in Week 2. He just returned to practice this week, and was a full participant all three days. The Steelers have two more weeks before they must make a decision on his IR return. In two games, Skowronek was not targeted and played in just six snaps of offense, though the 6-foot-3, 224-pound receiver can used a blocker more than some of the Steelers’ smaller depth wide receiver options.
