PITTSBURGH — It started as the Mitch Trubsiky show, but it ended up with Kenny Pickett leading the charge in the second half.

Pickett came into the game in the second half of the Steelers loss to the Jets and ran for two touchdowns and threw three interceptions. However, the Steelers skill players only see everything as a positive, including Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson.

“It’s football,” Johnson said. “Next man up. Somebody’s got to step up and get the job done.”

He said that Pickett gave the Steelers a new certain edge. Trubisky is obviously not thrilled that Pickett got the starting nod moving forward, but there are traits that Johnson noted that bring things to the forefront.

Those things include swagger, respect, and intensity. It sounds like Pickett will start, and Johnson seems extremely excited about that prospect. With Kenny Pickett now officially working through his first week of practice with the team, Johnson and the Steelers’ weapons will be able to see Pickett’s first week of preparation up close and personal.

Tight end Pat Freiermuth said he ‘hopes’ that Pickett would get the start, and it appears that wish is coming true. There is a level of trust with Pickett already in the offense. Johnson even mentioned the confidence and command Pickett came into the huddle with right away.
