Fitness trainer John Shackleton revealed on X that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson and former teammate Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf had a morning workout session on Wednesday. The workout took place at UCLA and it started at 6 a.m.
In the video provided by Shackleton, Wilson was dropping some of his vintage moon balls to Metcalf. Of course, it was just routes on air, but Wilson’s arm strength looked impressive. He was throwing some dimes.
“Crazy watching @DangeRussWilson & @dkm14 train this morning! 6 am! Connection Special! @NFL John Ursua is smooth too! #GreatnessIsaHabit #MoonBalls,” Shackleton wrote.

Wilson also disclosed on Tuesday that he’s getting some boxing training in this offseason. He also got some sprint work in at UCLA on Tuesday.
“Back in the Ring. Started in 2018 through 2020. Had some of my best years. Then COVID hit in 2020 and couldn’t go back in. Good to see my guys again Freddy Roach & Marvin Somodio,” Wilson wrote on X.

Wilson and Metcalf were teammates for three seasons in Seattle (2019-2021). Metcalf caught 29 touchdowns in the three-year span and was named second-team All-Pro in 2020.
According to Benjamin Allbright of KOA Radio in Denver, the Steelers made calls to multiple teams earlier this offseason in hopes of acquiring a No. 1 receiver. Metcalf, Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers and Courtland Sutton of the Denver Broncos were the three players named.
The Metcalf rumors have died down significantly, however. A Metcalf trade seemed unlikely from the beginning, as Seattle would have a large dead cap hit, and it really doesn’t benefit the Seahawks.
Unless something unforeseen happens, Russell Wilson will be the starting quarterback in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons. It’s Wilson’s job to lose.
“I’m really pleased with what I heard coming (out) of there with Russ,” Jeremiah said on the Rich Eisen Show. “I know there’s been a lot of talk with him and [Justin] Fields. It’s Russell Wilson’s gig. Everything I’ve been told, they’ve been impressed with how he’s thrown. Throwing with anticipation.”
Mark Kaboly of The Athletic listed Fields as a ‘loser’ in OTAs and minicamp mainly because he feels that Russell Wilson has a chokehold on the QB1 job. That’s the general feeling from most. Wilson was leap and bounds better than Fields this spring.
