Watch: Steelers NT Keeanu Benton Makes Ridiculous Interception
PITTSBURGH — It’s not every day a 300-pound Steelers defender snatches a pass out of the air.
Pittsburgh defensive lineman Keeanu Benton made sure that Sunday was one of them.
The Steelers’ second-year big man notched his first career interception against Jameis Winston and the Cleveland Browns. The pick came on a designed second-quarter screen intended for Nick Chubb. Undrafted rookie cornerback Beanie Bishop Jr. did his part on the play by leaping up and obstructing Winston’s view.
Despite being shoved in the back by Cleveland guard Joel Bitonio, Benton was able to squeeze the pass and rumble with it for 11 yards before being ridden to the turf by Chubb. The takeaway set up Pittsburgh’s first touchdown of the afternoon, a 1-yard run by Najee Harris five plays later.
Benton, a Wisconsin product, was the 49th overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. Entering the Steelers’ second clash with the Browns, he’d totaled 22 tackles on the season, including a pair of a loss. He’d also gotten a mitt on five other passes and recovered a fumble.
The stingy Steelers entered Sunday leading the league in takeaways with 25. Minnesota, Buffalo, Green Bay, and Houston were all tied for second with 24.
