The Pittsburgh Steelers will start the 2024 offseason with former Chicago Bears starter and first-round draft pick Justin Fields as their backup quarterback, but will the talented 25-year-old stay second on the depth chart, or will the Steelers have a serious quarterback battle on their hands between Field and Russell Wilson?

Head coach Mike Tomlin said this week that Fields “oozes” talent, and talked up the possibilities of him becoming the franchise quarterback that he was promised to be in Pittsburgh.

“Oh my god, man, he oozes talent and potential,” Tomlin said. “He’s worn the responsibility of being the franchise quarterback, but still gets to come into a community situation to learn from a guy that’s been doing it for over a decade. There’s a lot of meat left on that bone and I’m excited about working on extracting it.”

So how will Tomlin manage the two-headed monster at the quarterback position? Will Fields have a chance to win the starting job outright in training camp, or will he need to rely on Wilson taking a step backward at some point? Alan Saunders of Steelers Now joined Under Center on NBC Sports Chicago to discuss why the Steelers had interest in Fields, and how things might go for the ex-Bears starter in the Steel City.
