Final Word: What’s Caused Steelers Surging Running Game?
The Pittsburgh Steelers got a ground-game surge against the Green Bay Packers, with both Jaylen Warren and Najee Harris running for season highs in the 23-19 win over Sunday.
Harris rushed 16 times for 84 yards and a touchdown. Warren rushed 15 times for 101 yards and one score. The Steelers as a team rushed for 205 yards, crossing the 200-yard threshold for the first time in nearly a calendar year.
Not only was it a breakout, it looks like it might be one that could stick. The big performance against the Packers came on the heels of another against the Tennesse Titans in Week 9, when they rushed for 166 yards. The two-week total of 341 is the most for the Steelers in over 15 years.
So is the resurgent running game real, or a two-game mirage, and what has caused the turnaround?
Alan Saunders of Steelers Now joined Jenna Harner from our partners at WPXI, Mike DeFabo of the Athletic and Adam Crowley of 93.7 The Fan to break down the Steelers’ running game, whether their run of narrow victories is sustainable, and also the college football news that saw James Franklin fire his offensive coordinator, while Pitt’s season sinks away.
