Steelers

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s the team’s persistent interest in the safety position in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Steelers have shown a surprising interest in safeties in the 2025 NFL Draft cycle, using their combine formal interviews on a couple, sending head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Omar Khan to the pro days of several more, and even sending defensive backs coach Gerald Alexander to work out potential first-round pick Nick Emmanwori.

They did all of that despite a full depth chart at the position for the 2025 season, and All-Pro free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick locked up through the end of 2026. So what gives?

Alan breaks it down.
