Dolphins Sign Former Steelers Edge Rusher

The Miami Dolphins are signing former Steelers outside linebacker Melvin Ingram after a workout with the team, they announced. Ingram played for the Dolphins last season but did not re-sign with the team, instead opting to sit in free agency, waiting for the right opportunity. Miami is bringing him back to boslter their pass rush depth. 

Ingram has played for multiple teams throughout his career. The Chargers, Steelers, Chiefs, and Dolphins were the teams have signed Ingram in the past. Pittsburgh inked Ingram during the summer of 2021 when the team badly needed some edge rusher depth. It appears there was a miscommunication between Ingram and the Steelers, as Ingram requested a trade midway through the season after not getting the role he desired. Pittsburgh acquired a sixth-round pick for him before moving him to Kansas City. 

When they moved him, Mike Tomlin invoked his ‘volunteers, not hostages’ motto as to why they moved him, but it would come back to bite them when they faced the Chiefs in the playoffs.

“But also, to be quite honest with you and blunt, Melvin no longer wanted to be here,” Tomlin said at the time. “And for us, we prefer volunteers as opposed to hostages and we believe that’s a formula that really allows us to come together in ways that you can’t measure.”

Ingram would go on to contribute to the Chiefs and lead them on a run in the playoffs. That year, Ingram had just two sacks between both teams, but he ramped back up last year when he nabbed six sacks for the Dolphins. The 34-year-old hopes that there is more in the tank.
