Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson still has yet to sign with a team for the 2025 season. Most believe it’s because he is stuck waiting for free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers to make a decision first, but ESPN insider Tony Grossi hints it could also be due to his contract demands.

According to Grossi, Wilson is reportedly asking for $20 million to $30 million per year.

That is a bit of a steep asking price for the 36-year-old, who played a large role in the Pittsburgh Steelers five-game losing streak to end the 2024 season. It is also difficult to find teams with that much salary cap space following the first wave of free agency.

Wilson has visited with the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants, but he left without a deal. While that could be because those two teams are waiting on the Rodgers domino to fall first, they don’t have a ton of funds, either.

The Browns, who look like the favorites to land Wilson, have a little over $20 million in cap space and the Giants have a little over $17 million, per Over The Cap.

Both teams have the capabilities to make more space but is that really worth it for a veteran quarterback on the backend of his career?

The Steelers are actually the team that’s best set up to pay up with almost $41 million in cap space. However, their focus is on Rodgers and it’s a “safe bet” that’s going to happen, too.

Wilson’s not the player he used to be, but if he can play like he did before Pittsburgh’s five-game slide in 2024, a team will likely take the chance on him. Maybe not at his desired price point, though.

In 2024, Wilson completed 214 of 336 passes (63.7%) for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also ran 43 times for 155 yards and two more scores.
