The New York Jets have reportedly given permission to veteran wide receiver Allen Lazard to seek a trade.

Just two days after the New York Jets put star wide receiver Davante Adams on the trade block, they are now open to moving on from another one of their playmakers.

According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Jets have given permission to veteran wide receiver Allen Lazard to seek a trade. New York is also open to Lazard returning in 2025, but like Adams, he might want to follow quarterback Aaron Rodgers out the door.

Lazard, 29, joined the Jets on a four-year, $44 million contract in 2023, but he hasn’t really lived up to his deal. Over the past two seasons, he has recorded just 60 catches for 841 yards and seven touchdowns.

It remains to be seen what it would cost to acquire Lazard, but it’s hard to imagine it taking more than a Day 3 pick. That may just be enticing enough for the wide receiver-needy Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Steelers have been searching for another legitimate wide receiver since last offseason, but have continuously failed, settling for veteran wide receiver Mike Williams at the trade deadline.

Pittsburgh may not want to shop with New York again, though. In nine games, Williams had just nine catches for 132 yards and a touchdown.

However, options already seem to be drying up for the Steelers. The Cincinnati Bengals officially placed the franchise tag on wide receiver Tee Higgins on Monday, removing any chance of him coming to Pittsburgh this offseason.

If that trend continues, the Steelers may just be forced to call up the Jets once again for Lazard.

Since being an undrafted free agent in 2018, Lazard has registered 229 catches for 3,077 yards and 27 touchdowns. His best season came in 2022 when he had a career-high 60 catches for 788 yards and six touchdowns.
