Incumbent Pittsburgh Steelers’ general manager Kevin Colbert will deliver the commencement address at the graduate ceremony for Robert Morris University next month. The ceremony is set for Friday, May 6, at 4 p.m. on campus in the Peoples Court arena of UPMC Events Center. According to the school’s press release, approximately 150 students will receive master’s and doctoral degrees at that ceremony.
Colbert is arguably the most well-known alumnus of Robert Morris. He was a graduate of the school’s 1979 sport management program from their school of business. He’s no stranger to the current Robert Morris community, as he typically participates in the school’s yearly sport management conference. This past conference, he was even the keynote speaker.
Colbert used to be a member of the school’s board of trustees but stepped down last year after Robert Morris decided to shutter their men’s and women’s hockey programs. The school has since decided to bring back both programs, with the intention to return to play in 2023.
Colbert is about to hold his last draft as the Steelers’ general manager, a position he has held since 2000 under different titles. Colbert is also from the Pittsburgh area, having grown up in Cranberry Township in the nearby Butler County. He is a graduate of North Catholic High School.
The undergraduate ceremony for Robert Morris will have the commencement address be delivered by Robert Morris alumnus Richard J. Harshman, director of PNC Financial Services Group and Ameren Corporation and chair of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. That ceremony is set for Saturday, May 7, at 9:30 p.m.
