Everyone making the trek down Route 30 to Pittsburgh Steelers training camp at St. Vincent College is familiar with the big names to watch this season. Fans will be looking for Year 2 jumps from Kenny Pickett and George Pickens, their first look at rookies like Broderick Jones and Joey Porter Jr., free agents like Isaac Seumalo and Patrick Peterson, and veteran fan favorites like T.J. Watt and Cam Heyward.

But what about the less-heralded players that might catch the fans’ eyes that aren’t in that top tier of must-sees?

Alan Saunders of Steelers Now joined the Locked On Steelers podcast with Chris Carter to break down his predictions for some training camp standouts, and also talked about former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum, his seeming hatred for the Steelers, and whether or not he has a point about Kenny Pickett and his development ahead of the 2023 season.

“Kenny Pickett really struggled getting the ball downfield,” Tannenbaum said. “He was second worst in yards per pass attempt, and they have some really good receivers with Diontae Johnson, George Pickens, and they picked up Allen Robinson. But when you’re going up against Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow every week, you’ve got to be able to score points in chunks and I just don’t think Kenny Pickett has that ability.”

Does he have a point? Listen for more.
