PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had a minimal update on the injury status of quarterback Kenny Pickett after his team’s 20-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Pickett was injured late in the second quarter, when he took a hit from Jaguars defensive lineman Adam Gotsis and was driven into the ground. Pickett was examined for a rib injury during the half. He returned to the field and warmed up, but was ultimately ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Tomlin confirmed that Pickett had a rib injury, but did not offer any details about his prognosis.

“I don’t have any understanding of that,” Tomlin said.

Tomlin also said that Pickett initially being reported by the team as expected to return did not come from him and that Pickett warming up before the half did not mean that he was definitely coming back into the game.

“Him warming up is not necessarily reflective of intentions,” Tomlin said.

Obviously, without any information about the nature of his injury, Tomlin also didn’t have much of an update about Pickett’s prognosis going forward.

The Steelers don’t have a lot of time to let him work his way back into the lineup. They have a short week this week, with just three days in advance of the club’s Week 9 home game against the Tennessee Titans.

“We don’t have a lot of time to absorb the result of this. We’ve got a short week. And so we’ll do so quickly and turn our attention to planning toward Tennessee.”

Pickett completed 10 of 16 for 73 yards before leaving with the injury. He was replaced by Mitch Trubisky, who completed 15 of 27 for 138 yards, but also threw three interceptions. Trubisky is in line to start against the Titans if Pickett cannot.
