The Pittsburgh Steelers open up with an 8.5 win total for 2025, tied for eighth-highest in the AFC, according to ESPN Bet. The Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs are all tied for first in the AFC with a win total of 11.5. The Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angles Chargers follow at 10.5.

Aaron Rodgers’ looming decision probably plays a big factor in whether the Steelers’ win total will increase or decrease. If Rodgers signs, the Steelers’ win total probably will jump to at least 9.5.

As of now, 8.5 seems about right for the Steelers. Even with Rodgers, the Steelers most likely are still a 9-10 win team.

The Steelers went over their preseason betting total (8.5 wins) in 2024. It was the fifth consecutive season that Mike Tomlin’s squad has gone over the preseason mark.

In 2023, the Steelers also had an over/under of 8.5 wins, and they finished 10-7. In 2022, the mark was 7.5 and they finished 9-8, in 2021, they were projected to win 8.5 games, and the Steelers finished 9-7-1. In 2020, the line was 9.5, and the Steelers cleared it in 10 weeks, starting the season 11-0 before finishing 12-4.

The last time the Steelers failed to surpass their preseason betting expectations was in 2019, when the line was set at 9.5 games, but an injury to star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger helped hold them to an 8-8 record.

The Steelers haven’t had a losing season since 2003, which is by far the longest active streak in the NFL. The Steelers are tied for the longest non-losing season streak in NFL history with the Dallas Cowboys’ 21-year run from 1965-85. The Steelers finished 8-8 four times over the past two decades (2006, 2012, 2013 and 2018). The next-longest streak of non-losing seasons is 19 by the New England Patriots. New England never had a below .500 season during their two separate dynasty eras from 2001 to 2019.

Only Tom Landry (21 seasons, 1965-1985) and Bill Belichick (19 seasons, 2001-2019) have more consecutive seasons without a losing record than Tomlin’s 18. Landry had five consecutive losing seasons to start his career with the Dallas Cowboys, while Belichick had losing seasons in Cleveland and in his first season in New England.

Since 1972, the Steelers have 41 winning seasons, seven losing seasons and five .500 seasons.
