Omar Khan Leaves Door Open to Steelers Acquiring WR
General manager Omar Khan said the Pittsburgh Steelers are in position to make a move at wide receiver, if the right deal comes along.
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan left the door open to adding a wide receiver after the end of the 2024 NFL Draft, in one of his more forthright moments as the team’s general manager.
Speaking at the conclusion of the third day of the draft on Saturday, Khan said that the team is in place that it can make a move to add to the position if it finds the right one, thanks to their recent restructuring of Alex Highsmith’s contract.
“Yeah, we’ll see,” Khan said. “I’ve said it before. If there’s ever an opportunity to improve the team, we’re going to look at it, and if makes sense, we’re gonna go after it. We restructured Alex’s deal. It puts us in a position to be flexible with some things if there’s an opportunity to do something.”
The Steelers got one wide receiver in the 2024 NFL Draft, landing Roman Wilson from Michigan with their first of two third-round picks on Friday. But Wilson alone won’t replace the contributions of departed starters Diontae Johnson and Allen Robinson II.
The Steelers also added Quez Watkins from the Philadelphia Eagles and Van Jefferson from the Atlanta Falcons this offseason, but none of the available options really seems to project to be a starter opposite George Pickens.
The Steelers have been in talks with the San Francisco 49ers about Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel and the Denver Broncos about Courtland Sutton. There are also several wide receivers remaining in the free agent market, including Odell Beckham Jr., D.J. Chark, Michael Gallup and Marquez Valdez-Scantling.

How realistic is it that the Steelers will be able to make these kinds of moves? They’ve actually done quite a it of it in recent years.
Over the last two offseasons, the Steelers have signed and/or traded for linebacker Kwon Alexander, tackle Dylan Cook, tackle Jesse Davis, safety Terrell Edmunds, outside linebacker Marcus Golden, safety Damontae Kazee, defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi and cornerback Chandon Sullivan between the end of the draft and the start of the preseason.
