PITTSBURGH — George Pickens has arrived in Pittsburgh. Kenny Pickett stood in there and fired the ball on a crosser to find Pickens for a touchdown. In all the green space, no one was able to catch up to Pickens, and that gave the Steelers the lead heading in the middle of the 2nd quarter.

George Pickens is now in the WR1 for the team’s offense with Diontae Johnson on the side. That is something that Pickens should welcome in the time of need for the Steelers offense, as he gets a chance to prove himself as a second-year player. Aside from Jaylen Warren, the other players around him have not helped much.

Pickens did not do much in the team’s first game against the 49ers. But in one play, he proved he can be more explosive in more than just one way. The touchdown is the longest for the Steelers since Ben Roethlisberger found Chase Claypool in 2020 against the Denver Broncos.

The team looks to Pickens to step up as a top receiver, Allen Robinson II to regain form, and, more importantly, Calvin Austin III to prove he is ready to be something more than a speedy gadget guy. The Steelers will keep a plan that allows them to be multiple. They will work in more tight ends, running backs, and move the receivers around. That all will check into how Diontae Johnson gets replaced. But the playmakers at wide receiver need to step up. Pickens did just that.
